Appreciating The Little Things

I feel like I have
more time in summer
to appreciate
the Little Things.
(Perhaps because I'm not
in work mode
with lists of
things on my mind...)
Especially when it
comes to
these two.
When I look around their
messy bedrooms
(not always messy,
but, well...sometimes)
I see some many
glimpses of
their personalities,
and things that make
me smile.
I was looking at
Kendal's shoe box in
her bedroom this
morning,
which reminded of
how often she
puts her shoes
on the wrong feet
the first time around.
I look at the
multiple pieces
of paper
lying around
Lindsay's bedroom
(and the house for that matter),
which reminds me
about how often
she is inspired
to write or draw.
We of course love
the beach (bay)
and swimming,
so there are
multiple swimsuits
hanging out to dry,
sun-bleached towels,
piles of sand on the walkway
from the garage
to the house,
sand toys...
the smells and sights of summer
everywhere
you turn.
Things I love.
Time flies,
stopping to see
the little things
that bring smiles
and a warm heart...
is what I try to do each day.

Being Seven

The first day of being seven
was a success.
New American Girl Doll: Molly
Beautiful Musical Jewelry Box
and ballet slipper necklace:
to die for (thank you Aunt Robin and Uncle George)
Fancy Dress and Sparkly Hat: Thanks Grammy
the list goes on...
but it's really not
about the gifts...
though they are appreciated.
It's about living life and
making memories.
The afternoon and evening
spent at the bay on the peninsula
with good friends.
Simple...but so fun!

Our Big Girl...and some of her friends...
new and old.
Lindsay's Age 7

(I said pick one)
Favorite Number: 7
Favorite Dinner: Bean burritos
Favorite Breakfast: Waffles
Favorite Drink: Slurpee (thanks to her dad)
Favorite Fruit: Strawberry
Favorite Subject: Art
Favorite Show: Brady Bunch
Favorite Restaurant: Outback
Favorite thing to do with friends: Swing
Friends: Sofie, Lauren, Allie, Eeva
Best Friend: Kendal (her sister)

Her dad and I both know
she likes to be in control.
She is the perfect
angel at school
(which we are so proud of).
At home...
well she likes things
her way.
We appreciate her
wanting to become
her own person
and striving to be
independent.
It tries our patience
at times.
She is an amazing writer,
has a wonderful imagination,
and creates lovely artwork.
She is a loyal friend,
and caring big sister.
She is cautious...
with everything.
She takes a while
to warm up to
new situations
and taking risks.
We look forward to
watching her grow...
we love her
beyond words.
She loves her family
no doubt.
Happy 7th Birthday
Big Girl!

Last Day of Pre-School

 Not only was Kendal's
last day of pre-school in June,
but for us it seems
like the end to an era.
The pre-school and it's owner
have been a part of
my life
since I was 19.
I worked there prior
to becoming
an elementary teacher.
I babysat the owner's
children and her
sibling's children.
I've seen them all grow,
and some have children of
their own.
Deena took wonderful
care of both my girls.
To which I am forever grateful.
She took both of them at 21 months.
Leaving them in her care
made the guilt of working...
easy.
Both girls loved attending
school there.
Both grew in so many ways.
Both have very fond memories,
as well as strong friendships
built within those walls.
Both were/are very
prepared for kindergarten.
Kendal will miss the
comfort of being
in a place where
she was loved beyond
words.
She has become a confident,
spunky five year old...
We know there are so many
bright spots
in her future...
we can't wait to
see what they are!!
Thanks for everything
Miss Deena, Miss Gina, Miss Melissa...
and all the teachers.

Cambria Beach House Vacation 2013

Cambria
Such a great trip.
We loved:
beautiful hikes, tide pools, exploring, appreciating nature,
amazing sunrises and sunsets, and long strolls along the cliffs.
A much needed relaxing, fun-filled time for our little family.
Enjoy the scenery, we sure did!

Exploring the tides pools...just steps from our house...
